One of our hosts at our B&B had made a reservation the evening before at Contramar, and due to our late booking, was only able to get us a table for lunch at 5pm. Before leaving for our day out sightseeing, it was suggested by our hosts that if we showed up just after opening, that they might have a table for us. Being Aussies, we don’t mind an early lunch! So we did that, and they made room for us.
I can certainly see what all the fuss is about. We had a table on the footpath, which was perfect, with the middle sections of tree-lined street as our view, and ordered 3 starters and a main to share – the mahi mahi in a spicy, lime dressing (almost like a ceviche) that came with corn chips, a grilled kingfish and prawn that we rolled in hot, flat, corn pancakes (whose name I have forgotten), and crabmeat, cheese and pepper rolled pastry around a centre of fresh, lovely guacamole. They were the three starters, and they also threw a basket of bread on the table and a thin, spicy guacamole and an onion and chilli condiment to add to whatever we wanted. By the time the 3rd starter was delivered, the waiter asked if we wanted to cancel our main – fish with creamed spinach and peppers – which we were both so grateful for. We were far too full to eat any more (we’d also had a bottle of wine and sparkling water). He must’ve seen us rubbing our tight bellies. That is the first time that has ever happened to us at a restaurant – outstanding, observant, service. So we happily paid our bill and thanked our waiter, Sergio, and got out of there so they could reset for the growing line of people waiting on the street. Wonderful meal.
