Adelaide, North Terrace

Pretty detail of government building

We have only scratched the surface of the prettiness of this city, but here are some more pics of wanderings on a sunny, if coolish, Saturday. It began with a stroll from the Treasury to North Terrace – a very majestic street peppered with the ‘biggies’ of the city – Parliament House, Government House, National War Memorial, the State Library, South Australian Museum, Art Gallery of South Australia and University of Adelaide.

I was particularly impressed with the National War Memorial – it was stately and sombre and had a fine sculpture as its focus. Its list of the remembered was within it, rather than without, which created the atmosphere of a small chapel. Very moving.

Continuing along North Terrace in the morning sun was delightful – nothing but gorgeous buildings and accompanying green foliage and pretty colours, manicured and pampered to complete the pleasing aesthetic. We enjoyed an hour or so in the main hall of the art gallery before being called away by our grumbling bellies.
